What type of hair do you use?
We use two of the best extension brands on the market. Luxemane and Plushlocks.
LUXEMANE
For our weaves we use Luxemane Collection. A luxurious high end quality 100% RAW chemical and silicone free hair extensions, ethically sourced. Unlike any other extensions on the market, you not only can straighten, curl and colour but also lighten Luxemane Collection hair. This is a revolutionary for extensions and great for the girl who likes to change her hair up. More heavy duty & flexible it’s no wonder why Luxemane is one of our preferred suppliers.
PLUSHLOCKS
For our tape extensions and weaves we use Plushlocks hair. Supreme quality 100% remy human, single donor Russian hair, ethically sourced and 100% cuticle aligned. Plushlocks weaves are seamless flat tracked wefts. You can straighten, curl & colour Plushlocks hair as it is 100% human hair but we do not recommend bleaching or lightening the hair as this will shorten the lifespan. With the correct care, maintenance and products your Plushlocks hair can last up to a year or more.
Should you have a break from extension?
There is no need to take a break from hair extensions unless you are suffering from hair loss or any scalp irritations.
Can hair extensions damage the hair?
When applied correctly extensions can protect your hair. The natural hair is tucked away underneath therefore allowing the hair to rest from every day wear and tear, or damage caused by heat tools and environmental damage.
How often should you get your extensions redone?
Depending on the type of extension used, every 4-12 weeks.
Ideally 6-8 weeks is a healthy maintenance plan.
How long do extensions last?
Every colour, brand and type of extension are different. Blonde hair normally last approximately 6 to 12 months and brown hair can last approximately 12 to 24 months. Much depends on how you care for your luscious locks.
How to care for your extensions?
SLEEPING
The most traditional style for sleeping with hair extensions is to secure the hair in a braid/plait. Securing the hair in this way has a number of benefits. A braid will prevent your hair extensions from moving around causing the bonds to tangle. A braid will also reduce the amount of friction on the mid lengths and ends of the hair as you move in your sleep, making the hair smoother and easier to brush in the morning.
BRUSHING
Tangles are one of the biggest killers for hair extensions
Remembering to brush your hair regularly each morning and before bed.
Using a big paddle brush or detangler is the safest method brushing. Brush hair only when it’s slightly damp or dry. Always reducing tension by holding the root of the hair extensions while brushing.
PRODUCTS
Avoid any harsh chemicals especially those with alcohol, parabens, sulphates and phthalates as they will leave the hair feeling dry and damaged.
Avoid any thick or heavy products as they will leave the hair extensions feeling gluggy and heavy.
Always make sure you use a good leave in product with heat protectant up to 300°. Use a deep conditioning mask and a light leave in that is water solvent. You can tell this by reading the list of ingredients, the first ingredient will be Aqua water.
WASHING
Avoid washing hair in hot water, warm or cold is best.
Only use sulphate free shampoo and avoid washing your hair to often. Once or twice a week will be enough.
CONDITIONING
Using a treatment mask once a month will extend the life of your extensions. Avoid applying conditioner to roots, apply to mid lengths and ends only. Do not use protein, moisture only.
DRYING
Avoid blow drying all together and try air drying.
Always dry the root of the hair extensions after washing to avoid slipping. When blow drying always use the cool setting on your hair dryer. Too much heat can damage the hair extensions. Always use a heat protectant.
STYLING
Avoid tying your hair up on top of the head. Always tie in a low pony or bun to prevent slipping. Always use scrunchies or a silk hair tie to prevent breakage.
Silk pillow cases are a must for your hair extensions. Silk pillowcases are also a great anti-wrinkle aid for your skin. Win! Win!
Always plait or braid hair when sleeping to avoid knots.
SWIMMING & GYM
Avoid swimming and the beach as much as you can. This is not recommended for hair extensions as it does shorten the life span.
If you are wanting to go swimming, we recommend lathering your hair up with a leave in moisturiser or an oil to help build a barrier on the hair extensions. This will help to protect them.
Best to wear swimming cap to protect your hair from getting wet.
If your hair does get wet, immediately wash and follow the haircare routine.
When attending the gym try avoid your hair from touching body sweat. Sweat can sometimes dry the hair out try, try tying your hair in a bun.
